Old Lodge was established in 1997 with the purchase of a number of top quality KWPN mares with proven pedigrees including Nimmerdor, Lucky Boy xx, Voltaire and Jus de Pomme. Since then we have branched out and the stud now features horses from France, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Spain and of course the UK.
Each year the mares are artificially inseminated with a wide range of stallions which best compliment our mares. This includes the famous proven stallions such as Quidam de Revell and Voltaire to young up and coming stallions. By following the careers of young stallions we have been able to use them before they have become famous, including Corland and Baloubet du Rouet. The use of frozen semen has also made some stallions available to us which are no longer alive, such as Ahorn, Irco Mena and Galant de la Cour.
Old Lodge only use stallions which have been approved for breeding by a studbook affiliated to the World Breeding Federation of Sport Horses. As with any large breeding programme we are always looking for horses which will compliment the stud and competition yard. Mares, in work or at stud, with proven pedigrees and can either boast of jumping to Grade A plus or progeny proving themselves are always interesting. Super Trooper de Ness was purchased not only because of his amazing scope in sport but also because of his top class pedigree which will suit many of our mares.
Occasionally Old Lodge also looks to purchase quality young stock from other studs. To date we have been really successful including a three year old stallion from France who went on to be Champion of his grading and winner of many prestigious awards, a foal which has gone on to be one of the most successful young horses in the UK and now jumping at International Level – Brickfield Boy, Kilavale Cruise who went on to Grade A with over 30 wins and Estrella de Villa Franca whose grand dam is the full sister of Papillon Rouge and dam is full sister of two international jumping stallions and more recently a sister of the stallion Good Times.
