*BRICKFIELD BOY RETIRES*
posted : 09 January 2012
BRICKFIELD BOY RETIRES Brickfield Boy, named after our then stud in Newmarket, has been a fantastic horse to own. He has been consistent throughout his whole career from young horses classes onto a Young Rider Team and then in the very top national and international shows. He is now showing his age and has retired this weekend to Old Lodge Stud to keep the up and coming youngstock in order.
When Brickfield Boy featured on the front cover of the BSJA magazine in January 2009 it really brought home what an amazing horse he is. He has proved himself to be one of the most outstanding and consistent horses in show jumping with wins in International speed classes to International Grand Prix.
2008 was Brickfield Boy’s debut in Senior International sport and his results were excellent including winning the opening and closing classes at Olympia. In fact he jumped in 4 classes at Olympia that year winning two speed classes, 2nd in the 1.50m class and 9th in the 1.60m Grand Prix! 1st 1.40 Speed and handiness ***** CSI Olympia 1st 1.50 Against the clock ***** CSI Olympia 1st 1.40 Speed and handiness ***** CSIO Hickstead 1st 1.40 Speed and handiness ***** CSIO Hickstead 1st 1.50 Two phases *** CSI Windsor 1st 1.40 Two phases *** CSI Maubeuge 2nd 1.50 Against the clock ***** CSI Olympia 2nd 1.60 Accumulator *** CSI Windsor 2nd Knock-out **** CSI Birmingham 5th 1.50 Against the clock *** CSI Maubeuge 8th 1.55 Mixed comp. *** CSI Birmingham 9th 1.60 Mixed comp. ***** CSI Olympia
Further to this in 2008 we had an amazing year in top class BSJA National shows too. Brickfield Boy WON at Surrey County Show, 1st Patchetts Grand Prix, 1st Addington Grand Prix, 1st Castle Ashby Grand Prix, 1st Gents and WON the Grand Prix qualifier at the Festival of Show Jumping and had numerous placings in Area Trials, Renault Series and in the big classes at Kent County, Suffolk County, Oxfordshire Area Show, Devon County, Anglesey County, Shrewsbury Flower Show, Thame Show and a fantastic 2nd place in the Chester Invitational at Chester Racecourse! From 1st January to 31st December 2008 Brickfield Boy was ranked 25th on the BSJA rankings.
2009 Proved to be another exceptional year for this outstanding horse. On the National Circuit he was a consistent winner at the highest level - he lead the BSJA Stairways Series (1.50m) for most of the Summer and ended the season in 3rd place. This series was designed to identify top class national talent with Nations Cup potential. At the top National Level Brickfield Boy WON the Oxford Area Trial and WON the Devon County 1.50m Grand Prix, came 2nd in the Blue Chip Grand Prix, 2nd Addington Grand Prix, 2nd South of England 1.50m and the Norfolk 1.50m, plus numerous other placings at this level and wins in 1.40m.
On the International Circuit in 2009 Brickfield Boy continued to show his fantastic versatility and scope with a WIN in the 1.50m at the Royal International Horse Show Hickstead (5*) against Olympic and Super League horses as well as WINNING the 1.45m two phase at the British Open with numerous other placings to his name including a very credible 8th place in the Hickstead Derby Trial with just 4 faults (1.60m).
Right from the start we knew he was special. He WON numerous five year old classes in the UK and abroad, he went on to WIN the HICKSTEAD 1.30m as a six year old. At seven he turned GRADE A, WON numerous age classes including the 7 Year Championship at the Festival of Show Jumping, jumped in the Newcomer and Foxhunter finals at HORSE of the YEAR SHOW and ended the year representing BRITAIN at the WORLD BREEDING CHAMPIONSHIPS at LANAKEN. The following year he was selected to represent Britain on Young Rider Teams at WIERDEN and COMPIEGNE as well as WINNING the Young Riders at the CITY OF CHESTER and Rowallan.
For 2010 Brickfield Boy continued to be one of the front runners of the Old Lodge Stud winning at Royal Windsor and second in the South Of England Grand Prix and Welsh Masters Grand Prix and numerous placings abroad.
Although he was starting to show his age Brickfield Boy still bravely fought on in 2011 to win a class in Arezzo, win the £1000 class at the Great Yorkshire, win at the Royal International Horse Show, 2nd 1.50m Suffolk County, 2nd Henley AT and 3rd in the Oxfordshire IT plus numerous other placings.
Our thanks go to the staff at Old Lodge for raising him from a foal to Mennell Watson who produced him, Georgie Crumley for his Young Rider Years and finally to Geoff Luckett for winning so many classes with him.
Personally I am lucky enough to claim to be the first person to jump him. Having easily popped a cross pole my steering went a little off course and he thought the next jump was the big square bale in front of us which he ballooned over. Sadly for my pride I didn’t quite make it. After this he was wisely sent to a proper rider!

*SULTAN V*
posted : 04 January 2012
OLD LODGE’s Home-bred superstar Sultan V Established in 1997, with a group of well bred broodmares, Old Lodge had the idea of breeding show jumping horses. Now in 2012, Old Lodge Stud is one of the most successful show jumping studs in Britain. It is recognized in the UK and abroad as breeding and producing horses which have the attributes to succeed in top level sport. One of the top horses owned by Old Lodge is Sultan V (Irco Mena x Voltaire x Ahorn) born in 2002, who is a once in a lifetime horse and to have bred him makes him even more special. In 2009 Sultan V took a big step rising to the spotlight, being selected to represent Britain at the World Breeding Championships in Lanaken where he was placed. He went on to finish the year by doing the double at the Horse of the Year Show by winning the Horse and Hound prestigious Foxhunter Final as well as the Grade C Championship. In 2010 Sultan V developed into one of the most talked about horses as he started jumping in Grand Prix classes, where he went on to be crowned as the British National Champion at Scope with an unforgettable triple clear rounds. The following year he was selected to jump on the British Nations Cup Team at Lummen, Falsterbo, Lisbon, and Gijon under the saddle of British rider Bruce Menzies. In 2011 the Saudi equestrian show jumping team secured its place in the 2012 London Olympics during the Group F qualifications (Africa and Middle East Region). Since their qualification the Saudi team has been on the lookout for outstanding horses to be able to compete in the Olympics. Sultan V was a hot candidate for that; hence, he goes to Wisbeq in Belgium to be part of the Saudi team. Old Lodge will maintain its support to the British Show jumping industry whether it’s by breeding horses constantly or by providing horses for talented riders. The stud has promising horses coming along with different top riders in England and will continue to support riders in the UK. Many thanks goes to all the people who worked very hard in bringing him up and special thanks to his trainer Bruce Menzies who did a magnificent job in producing him to this level. Old Lodge would also like to thank the British Show Jumping Association for the support that was given to Sultan V during his years in the United Kingdom. Hopefully Old Lodge will have an upcoming star who will participate with the British team in the 2016 Olympics. Once again many thanks to the Old Lodge management, trainers, veterinary and remaining team staff. This is an exceptional horse we are very proud of.

The other horse - Figaro - as one to watch did not go to a show but he will be out this week.

Figaro van de Bossrand WON the non-British bred 4 Year Old Championship and was licensed as a stallion by the AES and BSJA.
Renkum Bridger came 2nd in the British Bred 4 Year Old Championship.
Zalza WON the non- British bred 5 Year Old Championship with a fantastic, speedy double clear. This lovely horse WON the 4 Year Old Championship in 2008 so quite an achievement.
Faise WON the British bred 5 Year Old Championship which gave Old Lodge a ‘Breeder Award’ and a bonus on top of the prize money of £2,000. He also won a Breeder Award and the 4 Year Old Championship in 2008.
Abdul Aziz performed very well and came 5th in the British Bred 5 Year Old Championship, WON a Breeders Award for Old Lodge and showed himself to be a very interesting horse for the future.
Bent Al Riyadh did not get placed but did get into the final which is a significant achievement in itself.
In the 6 Year Old British Bred Championship Hussah came a very credible 7th (Breeders Award) and Abeer retained her 10th place position as she was in the 5 Year Old Championship in 2008. She also WON a Breeders Award for Old Lodge. Mohammed also qualified for the final.
The Old Lodge horses in the 7 Year Old Championship showed their scope and ability by all making the Final with Sultan jumping with the greatest of ease throughout the week. His only pole down all week was in the jump off of the final and resulted in a Breeders Award and 10th place.
Bramati Z who was at only his 3rd show since this time last year jumped very well to achieve a 9th place in the class for horses of his age and one year older which have been bought through the Brightwells Auction. A class he can jump in again next year.
Statistically the results are an improvement on last year. There is always room for improvement but overall the results are excellent especially when you consider we were represented in all the Championships we could jump in (6 in all) and we WON 50% of them and were placed in the top 10 in 100% including a 2nd, 7th and 2 x 10th places.
Well done Team Old Lodge!

Luck was not with us in the Old Lodge Queen Elizabeth II Cup as Brickfield Boy had the last fence down but still managed to bring us some prizemoney home in 8th place.

Super Trooper came a credible 8th in the Young Breeding Horse Championship in the International Arena, a class he is young enough to contest in 2010. *RIHS UPDATE - MORE WINS FOR TEAM OLD LODGE*
posted : 24 July 2009
After the amazing day we had yesterday Team Old Lodge continued to dominate the National and International Classes at Hickstead. All our horses got into their jump offs with only 2 failing to jump a double clear and one of these was still placed! The day started with Little Lefanie being placed 4th of 52 in the Royal International Vase (1.45m). Estrella also jumped in this class - her first International - and showed great ability for the future. Super Trooper de Ness came 6th in the Old Lodge Young Breeding Horse Championship despite being a year younger than most of the competitors and has qualified for the final in the International Arena tomorrow. Sorraya was 6th in the 1.35m from over 70 starters. We dominated the Novice Stakes with 1st Zalza, 3rd Bent Al Riyadh, 5th Faize and 7th from Sabre. Abdul Aziz was also double clear and Vigeunerin jumping in her 3rd ever class also jumped a double clear. However our best two results we saved for last with Little Miss WINNING the Young Riders again - she has jumped 3 times at this meeting and achieved 2 WINS and a second - and Brickfield Boy who WON the Bunn Leisure Trophy 1.50m Grand Prix. After winning two speed classes at this International 5 star meeting last year we have moved him up to the 'big' class where he performed with outstanding ease, abilty and skill. CONGRATULATIONS TEAM OLD LODGE for your fantastic results.

*BRICKFIELD BOY LEADING HORSE AT OLYMPIA*
posted : 23 December 2008
Brickfield Boy's amazing win last night in the Speed Stakes, by over 3 seconds, was the finest display of trust a horse could ever have in his rider. Geoff and Brickfield Boy cut corners and jumped angles that no normal partnership could ever imagine would be possible. This gave Brickfield Boy his second win of Olympia, as well as a 2nd (by only 0.23second) and we think that this makes him leading horse of the show! In fact he only jumped in one other class which was the 1.60m Grand Prix on Sunday night and just rubbed the last fence. Old Lodge horses have only ever jumped 8 classes at Olympia in total with 3 WINS, 1 Second and a fourth......has anyone ever achieved such results before. This is an absolute credit to a British Based Stud and Team Old Lodge who does so much to help and support show jumping in the UK.

*BRITISH YOUNG HORSE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008*
posted : 22 August 2008
The results from the British Young Horse Championships for Old Lodge bred and produced horses was outstanding.
The four year old results were amazing with Bramati Z, Cheers Charisma and Zalza WINNING every class that they competed in including equal FIRST in the non British Bred Championship. They achieved this without a single fence knocked down over the whole show. Faize WON two out of three classes including the British Bred Championship and Adbul Aziz WON one class and came 4th in the Championship. Although Saber did not qualify for the Championship he did WIN the Consolation. Old Lodge were the sponsor of these classes so it was great to see our horses doing so well.
On Thursday we had the Equimat Brightwells Stars of the Future Challenge. Old Lodge horses gave a demonstration on how a team of horses can be so well prepared with an outstanding 1st (Viola) 2nd (Super Trooper) and 3rd (Jawaher) in this class.
The Five Year Old British Bred Championship was over a very tough track of 1.25m. A real step up for our horses which they coped with very well. Hussah was placed 3rd in the Championship only 0.62 of a second behind the first horse. Abeer (who had WON the qualifier) but took 10th place as the fastest horse with one fence down in the jump off.
Jawaher must be recognised for her continued consistency. She jumped clear every day at Hickstead and then came FIRST in both of the 6 Year Old Qualifiers and jumped double clear to come 3rd in Equimat Brightwells Star of the Future Challenge (beaten by Super Trooper and Viola!) and then 10th place in the 6 Year Old Non British Bred Championship. Super Trooper, who also WON his qualifier, just rubbed a fence off in the Championship.
In the British Bred 6 Year Olds we achieved a super FIRST place from Sultan in the Qualifier but the Championship was not his day, however Vamoose stepped up to this 1.35m Championship and jumped the best we have ever seen from her to take 5th place – the fastest horse with one fence down.
Old Lodge were presented with 5 awards from the British Show Jumping Association for the achievements of their homebred horses (Vamoose, Abeer, Hussah, Faize and Abdul Aziz). We also were given bonus prize money for the amazing number of double clears our horses jumped (Faize, Cheers Charisma, Bramati Z and Zalaz) and a further bonus for the 4 year old horses which were purchased through a Brightwells Auction and then jumped clear in their final (Cheers Charisma, Bramati Z and Zalza).
There were 517 horses competing of which 18 belong to Old Lodge. There were 7 Classes with 2 Preliminary Rounds, Consolation and Championship and one class which was a straight Championship. Old Lodge took home 17 x FIRSTS, 1 x 2nd, 2 x 3rd, 1 x 4th, 1 x 5th and 2 x 10th. The results speak for themselves on the amount of work, effort and especially the quality of the horses which Old Lodge own.

It compliments the £25,000 we have provided Hickstead so that the Queen Elizabeth II Cup can continue. This year it is open to our best National Riders of both sexes and gives them their only opportunity to jump a 'big' track in the International arena at Hickstead (CSI 5*)'. In addition to this Old Lodge have doubled the prizemoney for the 1.30m classes, provided the prize money and a huge silver trophy for the owner, breeder and rider of the Young Riders Championship and have developed a 'Young Horse Championship' with maximum prizemoney to help us identify the best of the 8 year old and under mares and stallions in the UK. *OLD LODGE WIN AT ROYAL WINDSOR HORSE SHOW CSI *
posted : 12 May 2008
Royal Windsor Horse Show 2008 was another good week for Old Lodge. Sultan, who has been accepted on the Equine Pathway, jumped a super double clear in the Foxhunter and Brickfield Boy, who is out of the smae mare as Sultan went on to WIN the Landrover International Stakes Two Phase(1.50m)and second in the Accumulator (1.60m) where Brickfield Boy set such a pace with full marks (flying over the 1.65m of planks)that fellow competitors struggled to catch his time, never mind the clear, until a fabulous effort by second last to go Graham Lovegrove and Angel who won by 0.18 of a second! Well done.
Comment from Jane Carley Horse and Hound reporter; 'Clear rounds were few and far between in the two phase competition, won with a bold effort from and early draw by Geoff Luckett and Rising Star Investments' Brickfield Boy. With a short distance from the last fence in phase one, Geoff was quickly on to the first in the second phase. A bright orange upright in the centre of the ring invited riders to angle it tightly, and he was one of few to succeed, giving a great gallop to a large oxer to finish.'

*OLD LODGE TO SPONSOR QUEEN ELIZABETH II CUP*
posted : 23 April 2008
The Queen Elizabeth II Cup, now also open to male riders and which heralds sweeping changes to the Longines Royal International Horse Show schedule, is to be sponsored by Old Lodge.
Hickstead, host to the oldest show on the British calendar since 1992, recently announced that it had agreed to a request from the FEI to change the format of this historical class. The Queen Elizabeth II Cup was presented in 1949 and has been open only to lady riders. It now becomes a prestigious national final with a prize fund of £9.000, open to the top 20 male and female riders on the BSJA International Trial List.
Riders will qualify at the country’s county shows, and as well as giving the national circuit a well-needed boost, it will give the second tier of male riders an extra opportunity to qualify for the show.
Hickstead owner Douglas Bunn said: “We are very happy that Old Lodge has seen the enormous potential of this competition in its new format and decided to add it to the formidable list of classes which have its support.”

Old Lodge sponsorship also boosts prize money for national classes
Old Lodge is sponsoring a new young horse championship at the Royal International Horse Show (July 25-29) as well as supporting seven 1.30m and 1.40m classes to give significant prize money increases.
The Sussex-based Old Lodge business has its sights set this year on one of its horses winning the Queen Elizabeth II Cup.
The Old Lodge Young Breeding Horse Championship for mares and stallions will have one qualifying class and a final in the International Arena. It carries prize money of £1,500, with £500 to the winner. The sponsorship also makes it possible to raise prize money in four 1.30m Open classes from £100 to the winner to £330, and in three 1.40m Opens from £100 to £400.
Old Lodge last year won the Young Riders Championship with Little Miss, ridden by Georgie Strutton, as well as the Hickstead Grade C Championship with the stallion Loulou de Villiers ridden by Nicky Boulter.
Support for the Breeding Horse Championship and 1.30m classes is for three years, while at this stage the prize money boost for the 1.40m Open classes is for 2007 only.
Hickstead director and Royal International Horse Show secretary Lizzie Bunn said: “This sponsorship by Old Lodge is really great news. The new championship will get a lot of support and help bring on future stars, while the substantial increase in prize money for the Open classes in our outside rings will be very popular.”

posted : 21 April 2008
Estrella D V's foot perfect double clear in a strongly contested Winter B and C final at Medstead, where some of the final fences were reputed to be 1.45m, means she has qualified for the final at RIHS for a second time. This was her third win in a row as she won the 1.30m here and the 1.30m at Quob in recent weeks. Nicky Boulter will now start jumping her in the bigger classes and she will no doubt turn Grade A/International shortly.
